Pikeville Medical Center President and Chief Executive Officer Walter E. May’s vision of having employees “dream big and big things will happen” reached a milestone on April 28, 2011.
May announced during a press conference that PMC has been named the National Hospital of the Year by the American Alliance of Healthcare Providers (AAHCP) for a second consecutive year. This makes PMC the Nation's only repeat winner. Click here for more >>>
State-Of-The-Art Diagnostic Equipment
PMC has invested millions to offer the most advanced diagnostic imaging equipment available anywhere.
We have purchased two Toshiba 320 slice scanners. To our knowledge, we were the first and only hospital anywhere to have two of these scanners on one campus.
Our diagnostic imaging is now even more advanced with the addition of two 1.5 Tesla MRI machines and a 3.0 Tesla Verio Open MRI!
In addition, the PACS system now allows physicians to have access to many of their patients' diagnostic images within seconds after they are scanned, whether the physician is in Pikeville, or on the other side of the globe.
Top quality Cancer Care
Pikeville Medical Center recently purchases two RapidArc™ linear accelerators to treat cancer patients. This represents an investment valued at over $10 million. Our cancer center routinely wins the prestigious Commission on Cancer award. |
One of the Nation's Best Places to Work!
PMC ranked 5th in the nation and 1st in Kentucky in Modern Healthcare's Best Places to Work (click here for details).
Pikeville Medical Center is also ranked as the #1 health care organization in “Best Places to Work” in Kentucky.
While other health care organizations struggle, Pikeville Medical Center excels, and provides it's employees with competitive salaries, an exceptional benefits package, supportive management and the resources they need to do their jobs more effectively.
The Heart Institute

Pikeville Medical Center is a proud affiliate of the Cleveland Clinic's Heart Surgery Program. For more information, please visit the Heart Institute section of this website and/or see this video.
4-D Echocardiograms
Pikeville
Medical Center was the first hospital in Kentucky to offer the
exceptional imaging delivered by the GE Vivid Dimension 7 "4-D"
echocardiogram system. With this system, our cardiologists can virtually
see inside the chambers of your heart, watch it beat, and observe the
movement from almost any angle imaginable.
Neurosurgery
PMC's BrainLab system allows our neurosurgeons, Dr. Duane Densler and Dr. Norman Mayer, to track the fibers and neural pathways to plan their journey into and out of the brain. This leads to surgeries that are more accurate, more effective, safer and with less damage to surrounding brain tissue.

Digital Mammography
PMC has invested in three Selenia Digital Mammography systems that allows radiologists far better imaging than previously available. This leads to earlier detection, more accurate diagnoses, and more lives saved.
