Amy Johnson, Bariatric Surgeon, M.D., F.A.C.S
Amy Olsen Johnson MD FACS is a bariatric and general surgeon who has successfully completed over 1000 bariatric cases with a very low complication rate. She is also a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons and the American Medical Association. She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is board certified by the American Board of Surgery.

Dr. Johnson completed her undergraduate education at the University of Oregon where she was Phi Beta Kappa. She then received an MD from Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina with honor of Alpha Omega Alpha. She completed her surgical residency at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in 2002 and began active duty service at Fort Bragg, NC as a general and bariatric surgeon. After completing her service in the military she stayed on at Fort Bragg where she grew a busy bariatric practice.

She brings to Pikeville Medical Center tremendous experience, expertise and compassion for the bariatric patient. Her goals in treating morbid obesity surgically are to eliminate or significantly improve medical problems that plague this patient population.

Dr. Johnson is the mother of three adult children and one grandchild. She shares her life with a loving, supportive husband with whom she enjoys biking, fishing, water skiing and gardening.

Ciara Ferguson, Bariatric Coordinator and Registered Dietician
Ciara Ferguson has been a registered and licensed dietician since 1997. She graduated with a double major in nutrition and dietetics from Trinity College, Dublin Ireland and moved to England to begin her career as a dietician. She moved to Kentucky in 2003 as the Director of Food and Nutritional Services at Georgetown Community Hospital. It was here her career in bariatrics began. Ciara’s husband was accepted to Pikeville College’s School of Osteopathic Medicine and they moved to Pikeville in August 2009. She is a member of the American Dietetic Association, Kentucky Dietetic Association, American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, Obesity Action Coalition and serves on the Kentucky Dietetic Association State Board as Chair of strategic planning. Ciara enjoys helping people make a lifestyle change towards healthy eating.

Amy Kimbler, Bariatric Surgery Registered Nurse
Amy has been a licensed RN for 13 years. Originally from Floyd County, she received her nursing degree from Pikeville College. Before joining PMC’s bariatric team, Amy previously worked in the hospital’s SICU, MICU and endoscopy department, as well as in a primary care physician’s office. Amy is excited about the opportunity she has been given to join our staff and encourage patients with their healthy lifestyle changes.

Kim Ward, Registered Dietitian
Kim Ward has been a Registered and Licensed Dietitian since 1996. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Clinical Dietetics from the University of Kentucky . Kim began her professional career at Pikeville Medical Center and has returned after spending several years in Virginia and South Carolina . She has many years of experience working in the Dietetics field holding positions as a Clinical Nutrition Manager, Director of Nutrition Services, Oncology Dietitian as well as owning her own successful consulting firm that provided nutritional services for several hospitals, long term care facilities, and physician practices. Kim is excited to join the weight loss surgery center.

Heather Johnson, Insurance Coordinator
Heather Johnson has been a licensed practical nurse for 10 years. She started her nursing career working at Mountain View Health Care where she worked for three years. She started working at Pikeville Medical Center in 2004. Her experience at Pikeville Medical Center includes all of the following; Inpatient Rehab where she worked for five years. She transferred to Performance Improvement as clinical specialist and worked there for two years. She joined Pikeville Medical`s Bariatric Team in Aug. 2011 as an Insurance Coordinator. Not only is Heather an employee at Pikeville Medical Center's Bariatric office, she is also a patient. She had Gastric Bypass in May 2010 and lost over 100lbs. Heather is very excited about having an opportunity to share her bariatric surgery experience with others.

Kristie Dotson, Bariatric Assistant
Kristie Dotson has been a certified Medical Assistant for 5 years. Originally from Ohio, she received her degree from the American School of Technology. Before joining our staff she previously worked at a physician's office in Columbus, Ohio. She is very excited to be a part of our team and to encourage patients to reach a healthy lifestyle change.

Brad Adkins, Psychologist, Ph. D.
Dr. Adkins is a licensed clinical psychologist. He was born and raised in Pike County, KY. He has been licensed to practice clinical psychology in Kentucky since 2005. He obtained his doctoral degree from The Union Institute and University of Cincinnati, Ohio. He has significant experience in valuable fields of his practice including: community mental health, vocational rehabilitation, addictions treatment, pain management, psychological evaluation, court depositions, and helping with emotionally disturbed children. He also has taught at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
