Digital Mammography

PIKEVILLE — Pikeville Medical Center is pleased to announce a success story in their radiology department. By using the new Selenia digital mammography system from Hologic, PMC has been able to provide the highest quality of care to their patients in the prevention and in early detection of breast cancer. This is the only digital mammography unit in the region.

Digital Mammography allows the radiologist to view the x-ray image more closely, zeroing in on suspicious or concerning areas, enabling them to make immediate decisions about additional images. Digital mammography takes less than half the time of traditional film-based exams and the radiologists may review the images while the patient is in the examination room.

In conjunction with the digital mammography unit, Pikeville Medical Center is offering Computer-Aided Detection. CAD provides a “second read” of the mammogram by a computer. This assists the radiologists in making in making a diagnosis.

The Medical Center provides a comprehensive scope of services addressing the physical, emotional and educational needs of our clients. Services include screening programs, diagnosis, intervention, treatment, and management of many different diseases of the breast. Educational and support resources are also available.
