(Pikeville, KY) Habitat for Humanity officially began breaking ground on Monday, June 5, 2006 for the Women Build taking place this fall. The actual build will take place on September 16, 2006 on Harmon's Branch, behind Childers & Venters and the Classic Lanes bowling alley. This build will not only provide a Pike County family with a clean, safe, and decent place to live, but it will also help out this region economically.

The family who has been chosen to receive this house will attend a dedication ceremony at the completion of the build on Saturday, September 23, 2006. In addition to the Women Build this fall, Habitat has plans for an ongoing project which will consist of an additional 28 home build in the Harmon's Branch subdivision.

All of the financial efforts and physical work put into this home will be from local volunteers, both individual and organizational. Habitat encourages everyone to volunteer however possible either through giving a financial donation, volunteering to work on the build or praying for everyone involved. To date, there have been several organizations that have chosen to commit both time and money toward the build this fall.

These organizations include Pikeville Medical Center, Lowe's, Interstate Natural Gas, Community Trust Bank, Central Appalachian Mining, the Justice Family Foundation of Pikeville, Pikeville Rotary Club, First Christian Church and the Osteopathic School of Medicine.

If anyone would like to get involved in the Women Build either as a corporate sponsor or an individual volunteer, please contact Andrew Dinsmore, executive director of the Pike County Habitat for Humanity, at (606) 437-4011. Monetary donations can be sent to Pike County Habitat for Humanity Women Build, PO Box 2947, Pikeville, KY 41502.

If you think you may want to help with the build, but are uncertain of how to actually build a house, Lowe's will be resuming skill building classes on Monday, July 10, 2006 at 7 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend! Please contact the Pikeville Lowe's for more information at (606) 433-0020. Also, any family who may be interested in applying to be a candidate for other habitat homes like this one should contact Mr. Dinsmore at (606) 437-4011.
