President/CEO: Walter E. May
Walter E. May is a native of Pikeville, Kentucky, and has a long and distinguished record of community service. A life-long broadcaster, Mr. May is owner and Chairman of the Board of East Kentucky Broadcasting. He takes great pride in his service as Mayor of Pikeville, especially the fact that during his tenure the city was twice voted one of the “Best 100 Small Towns in America.” A former President of the Kentucky Broadcasters Association and Chairman of the National Association of Broadcasters, Mr. May has applied the same drive and commitment that he employed in broadcasting to making Pikeville Medical Center the finest hospital in the world. During his 46 years on the Board of Directors, Pikeville Medical Center has grown from a small-town hospital to a nationally recognized medical center with state-of-the-art equipment and world class services.
Mr. May was elected Chairman of the Board in 1990, and has been very faithful to the hospital’s mission “to provide quality regional health care in a Christian environment.” His dedication to the hospital, Pikeville and Pike County are seen throughout the many areas that have benefited from his active participation. In 2007, Mr. May’s dedication to Pikeville Medical Center and health care in general was recognized by the Kentucky Hospital Association with their Governance Award.
Mr. May and his wife, Pam, live in Pikeville, as do four of their six children.
