Rheumatology - A specialty devoted to the diagnosis
and therapy of conditions and diseases affecting
the joints, muscles, and bones.
Arthritis - An inflammation of one or more joints,
which results in pain, swelling, stiffness and limited
movement. There are over 100 different types of
arthritis.
Rheumatoid arthritis - a chronic inflammatory
disorder that most typically affects the small joints
in your hands and feet. Unlike the wear-and-tear
damage of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis affects
the lining of your joints, causing a painful swelling
that can eventually result in bone erosion and joint
deformity.
Osteoarthritis - the most common joint disorder it
is caused by ‘wear and tear’ on a joint.
Gout - a kind of arthritis that occurs when uric acid
builds up in the joints. Acute gout is a painful condition
that typically affects one joint. Chronic gout is
repeated episodes of pain and inflammation, which
may involve more than one joint.
