About Dr. Nollah

Pikeville Medical Center (PMC) proudly announces the addition of Blessing Laura Nollah, M.D., Medical Oncologist/Hematologist.

Dr. Nollah received a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry, with honors, from Stony Brook University in Long Island, New York, and medical degree from the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

In addition, she completed residency at Yale University New Haven Health Systems in Connecticut. Further training included a fellowship at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio in Hematology/Oncology.

As a child, Dr. Nollah wanted to be a physician.

“When I was eight years old I wrote in my journal I want to become a physician. My mother saved the journal, which I later came across while in medical school,” Dr. Nollah continued. “I now know medicine is my calling from God.”

“I love incorporating helping patients with my great love of science,” said Dr. Nollah. “Hematology/Oncology allows me to treat patients and incorporate my love of pharmacy and biochemistry.”

The special relationships she has with patients is also very important.

“Nobody wants a cancer diagnosis,” said Dr. Nollah. “You have to be compassionate and provide comfort for patients during this trying time.”

Dr. Nollah describes her mother as the influential person in her life.

“My mother is a retired accountant who always showed me the importance of hard work,” she expressed. “She raised six children alone after my father died.”

Dr. Nollah chose PMC, in part, because of its commitment to Christian values.

“PMC being a tertiary medical center will allow me to treat a variety of malignancies. But most importantly I love the emphasis on Christian values,” she expressed. “This really attracted me to the center. PMC is special because is incorporates both my love of science and academics of being a great doctor, with a Christian aspect,” she continued. “You can’t get through anything without God.”

Dr. Nollah believes there is a great need for cancer care in our area.

“Research has shown that Kentucky is one of the top five states in the U.S. with the highest incidences of cancer,” stated Dr. Nollah. “Myself and other Pikeville Medical Center Medical Oncologists/Hematologists are able to provide care so patients can stay local. As patients get treated with chemotherapy, it’s actually not a one-day treatment, sometimes patients need treatment for six months,” she continued. “Sometimes it’s best to get care next door rather than traveling out of town.”
