Pikeville Medical Center (PMC) is proud to announce the addition of Neurologist Ryan Owens, MD, to the Prestonsburg Primary and Urgent Care location. Born and raised in Floyd County, Dr. Owens is eager to provide quality neurology care for the patients Monday through Thursday in Prestonsburg.

Dr. Owens joins a highly skilled team of providers in the neurology department at PMC, which is also accredited as a Primary Stroke Center.

“I am excited to return home and have the opportunity to give back to the community that has given me so much,” said Dr. Owens. “Working at PMC allows me to come home and to serve the people that are special to me.”

Dr. Owens is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He received his medical training and completed his residency at the University of Kentucky (UK) where he also graduated summa cum laude with degrees in biology and psychology. He also served as chief resident. He chose neurology because it allows him to develop relationships with his patients, treating a wide array of illnesses.

Making patients feel confident they are receiving the same level of care they would in a larger city, is a goal for Dr. Owens.

“I understand the struggles people in eastern Kentucky may face and how those struggles may impact their health,” he explained. “Patients can expect me to take the time to listen to their concerns and involve them in their treatment plan. People in this area don’t have to leave town to receive high level neurology care. They can make an appointment and be treated right here at home.”

Neurology is a rapidly evolving field with several advances in treatment for conditions that once seemed untreatable.

“It all starts with talking to your primary care provider,” said Dr. Owens. “Patients can express any concerns to them and they will point you to the right specialist.”
