Pikeville Medical Center (PMC) proudly announces the addition Anfal Fahim, MD, hospitalist. A hospitalist is a doctor, typically specializing in internal medicine, who cares for patients admitted to hospital.

Dr. Fahim earned her medical degree from the Dow Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan. She went on to finish an internship at Civil Hospital in Karachi. She completed her residency in internal medicine at Wayne State University, Detroit Medical Center in Detroit, Michigan.

She chose this specialty because internal medicine is broad and ever-changing and she appreciates the complex design of the human body.

“I like to be diverse and deal with most medical issues,” Dr. Fahim explained. “Internal medicine trains me to deal with different organ systems broadly. The diversity of my field is really fascinating and gets me going.”

She says that providing patient-centered care encourages her patients to engage in their own treatment.

My patients can expect me to always be there to address their medical need and they can always discuss their concerns with me,” Dr. Fahim added. “I would like to bring my medical expertise to serve the community and the humble people of this region.”

Dr. Fahim chose PMC because she is impressed with the growth of the facility along with the many services and specialties offered.

“PMC has a majority of sub-specialties and with the new Cardiac Cath Lab and primary care services expanding, it’s like having an entire health system right here in one spot,” said Dr. Fahim.

“That’s just so convenient for the patients and as a physician I don’t have to worry about continuity of care for my patients.

In her free time, Dr. Fahim enjoys traveling, photography, trying out new cuisines and exploring different cultures. Now that she lives in Pikeville, she is learning to kayak.
