Pikeville Medical Center (PMC) recently recognized its eleventh DAISY Award winner, Krissy LeMaster. The DAISY Award is a national recognition initiative that recognizes extraordinary nurses for the work they do for patients and families each day.
LeMaster, who resides in Salyersville, has been a registered nurse (RN) at PMC for two years and was honored during a surprise ceremony at the hospital on May 30.
LeMaster was nominated by a PMC patient for the care she provided. Below is the nomination letter submitted by the patient:
“I have been a nurse for 41 years and taught for 20 years. I feel like I know what it takes to be a good nurse and Krissy wears that title well. She is outgoing, efficient, mature, competent, and caring. I know that is a lot of adjectives but I feel like they all describe Krissy. There is not one thing that happened that has caused me to nominate her. I have stayed 4 days and had Krissy as my nurse 3 of these 4 days. She introduces herself, is on time with my medications, she actually got my blood sugar before meals which is the way it should be done and she explained everything she was going to do beforehand. I did not require a lot of nursing care but there seemed to be a lot that did have a higher need on that floor. Krissy always made sure my needs were met in a timely fashion. She did not delegate care such as getting me ice, working the TV, and many other things preferably not in her job description and she would also come by just to see if I needed anything. Krissy is young now but as she grows in the nursing profession she has the potential to be at the top of her field. It would be a wonder to her performance evaluation in ten years and she would even make a good preceptor. I felt I needed to recognize Krissy for the wonderful care she has given.”
LeMaster was selected from a number of RNs who were also nominated for this prestigious award.
