When physicians need to examine an injury or illness more thoroughly, they often order an x-ray, CT scan or an MRI to get a detailed image of a specific part of the patient’s body. At Pikeville Medical Center (PMC), the Diagnostic Services department utilizes state-of-the-art equipment and imaging technology not offered by other facilities in the region.
This gives patients additional reassurance that they are receiving quality care close to home without the need to travel hundreds of miles to be diagnosed or treated. PMC offers some of the most advanced medical imaging available, such as Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Scanners, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machines, Computerized Tomography (CT), X-Ray, 3D mammography, ABUS breast ultrasound devices, bone density scanners and more.
Patients needing x-rays or diagnostic scans on an outpatient basis can visit the convenient PMC Diagnostic Center located across the road from the main hospital, which offers patients an “all-in-one” location for imaging and lab work with extended hours from 6:30am to 5:30pm Monday through Friday.
For patients being treated in the emergency department or who have been admitted to the hospital, PMC offers advanced imaging capabilities dedicated to these patients, as well. Having these services readily available and accessible provides a better experience for patients.
