A pediatrician is there for a child throughout every step of adolescence, from birth through the teenage years. Just as an adult’s primary care doctor is an important relationship for a patient, a pediatric patient needs regular visits to their doctor, too. Pediatricians provide a wide variety of services including:

  • Tracking a child’s physical, emotional and social development
  • Diagnosing and treating illnesses, injuries and other health conditions
  • Administering vaccinations
  • Prescribing medication
  • Offering health advice to parents
  • Performing wellness checkups, and more.

Pediatric patients need to see their pediatrician even when they aren’t sick. Wellness visits are crucial to tracking a child’s development and helping them remain healthy. It is recommended that pediatric patients see a pediatrician at two to four weeks, two, four, six, nine, 12, 15, 18, and 24 months, and annually following their second birthday. During wellness visits, a pediatrician evaluates a child’s overall physical and emotional health and make sure his or her development is on track. Pediatricians also promotes and administers recommended vaccines.
