Dr. Wells received her Bachelor of Science in biology from Morehead State University in Ky. She completed her medical degree from the University of Louisville School of medicine. Dr. Wells completed her residency at Wright State University’s Children’s Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio.

Dr. Wells is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics. She is certified by the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure.

She serves as the senior examining physician at Big Sandy Advocacy Center. In addition, she is a member of Kentucky Medical Association, Pike County Medical Association and American Academy of Pediatrics.

Dr. Wells is an associate professor for pediatrics at the University Of Pikeville School Of Osteopathic Medicine. Wells is a preceptor for family residency program at PMC.

“I have always loved children. I grew up wanting to be a doctor,” said PMC Pediatrician Aaronda Wells, MD. “I have always felt a connection with children of all ages and love their curiosity and spontaneity.”

Dr. Wells says her mentor was Dr. Ruth Ann Shepherd. Dr. Shepherd was the founder and original neonatologist, at Pikeville Medical Center Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

“Dr. Shepherd is a driven, dedicated and loving woman who, through her life, improved the lives and healthcare for children in our area and all of Kentucky,” said Dr. Wells. “During my time with her, she taught me all things are possible with dedication and hard work. She taught me to believe in myself, know my worth and to not be afraid to be an advocate for our children.”

She looks forward to providing care to patients at PMC.

“My goals are to simply provide excellent medical care in a loving compassionate Christian environment and be a physician that my patients know they can depend on in their time of need,” added Dr. Wells.

She said patients can expect that she will care for their children and love them like they are her own family.

“I always hope to be an advocate for my patients no matter what their need may be,” said Dr. Wells.

Several factors drew Dr. Wells to PMC.

“I chose PMC for a few reasons,” she said. “I have been an affiliated physician at PMC for 18 years and could not imagine practicing anywhere other than PMC.”
Wells’ journey at PMC began as a young adult when she worked in the NICU.

“I love that I already know, admire and respect so many people who work at PMC,” Dr. Wells added.

Wells said practicing for over 18 years in Pikeville, she has loved watching her patients grow from infants to young adults.
