Award for Extraordinary Nursing
About the DAISY Award
DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. The DAISY Foundation was established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 of complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). Patrick was a twice survivor of Hodgkin’s Disease and lived his life with good will and support to all he met.
His family created the DAISY Award to recognize the skilled and compassionate care he received from his nurses and celebrate the professionals who consistently meet the high standard of care he received. The DAISY Award was created to keep his special spirit alive and recognize the special contributions nurses provide.
Each DAISY Award Honoree will be recognized at a public ceremony on his or her unit, and will receive an award certificate, a DAISY Award pin and a beautiful Healer’s Touch hand-carved stone sculpture. Additionally, the unit will celebrate with cinnamon rolls – a favorite of Patrick’s during his illness.
