About Dr. Duggal

Pikeville Medical Center (PMC) announces the addition of Anil Duggal MD, who specializes in hand and wrist surgery as well as plastic and reconstructive and surgery.

Dr. Duggal received his medical degree at McMaster University in Ontario, Canada.  Following medical school, Dr. Duggal received a fellowship in Burns from the University of Alberta Firefighter’s Burn Treatment Unit and then completed his residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at McGill University in Montreal.  His training then continued in Kentucky, as Dr. Duggal received a fellowship from the world-renowned Christine M. Kleinert Institute for Hand and Microsurgery at the University of Louisville.  For the past three years, Dr. Duggal has worked as a hand and plastic surgeon at the University of Kentucky Medical Center and was a faculty member at the UK College of Medicine in Lexington.

Dr. Duggal says many of the patients he treated while at the University of Kentucky helped him make the decision to accept the position at Pikeville Medical Center.

“A significant amount of the patients I saw in Lexington were from Eastern Kentucky,” explained Dr. Duggal.  “Many people in this region make their living using their hands, and for many of them, it is difficult to make repeated trips elsewhere to continue treatments following surgery.  It just made sense for me to make the move to PMC.”

As a hand surgeon, Dr. Duggal sees patients with a range of issues such as arthritis and nerve compression, but he specializes in the treatment of traumatic injuries and reconstruction of the upper extremity.   As an added bonus, he is also a plastic surgeon, which allows him to also work closely with the trauma teams at PMC and perform complex facial reconstruction procedures when necessary.

When not caring for patients, Dr. Duggal enjoys spending time at home with his family, playing tennis and traveling to new places when they can.

Dr. Duggal’s office is located in the Orthopedic Department on the 6th floor of the PMC Clinic alongside hand surgeon, Devesh Sharma, MD.
