About Dr. Jarrell

Pikeville Medical Center (PMC) proudly announces the addition of Emergency Medicine Physician Dr. Brett E. Jarrell.

Dr. Jarrell received his Bachelor of Arts in biology from Wittenberg University. He received his Masters of Arts in biology from Marshall University and obtained his medical degree from Marshall University School of Medicine.

Dr. Jarrell completed his residency at West Virginia University and is board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine.

“I was always interested in science and being around people at an early age,” Dr. Jarrell said. “I suffered a lot of sports injuries and was always around doctors, and the work and care they provided intrigued me. I knew I wanted to provide care to patients one day as they did,” he said.

Dr. Jarrell says his mentors were Mitch Charles and Todd Crocco, both physicians who took him under their wing during medical school and his residency.

“They both instilled great lessons for me to carry on during my medical career,” Dr. Jarrell said. “They both taught me to trust my instincts, be a patient advocate and to always do the right thing,” he said.

He looks forwarded to providing emergency care to the region.

“My goals for the emergency department are pretty simple,” said Dr. Jarrell. “I want to provide quality care and treat patients with dignity.”

Several factors drew Dr. Jarrell to PMC.

“I chose PMC for a few different reasons,” he said. “I heard several positive things about the hospital and the care they provided to patients. I had several friends who came to work at PMC and loved working here. “

He said he came to see the hospital and loved the quality care they offer to people of this region.

“I knew I wanted to practice medicine here,” he added.

When he’s not caring for patients, Dr. Jarrell enjoys sports, traveling and takes an interest in international health care.
