About Dr. Slatton

Dr. Slatton received his Bachelor of Science in chemistry from East Tennessee State University (ETSU) in Johnson City, and his medical degree from the ETSU James H. Quillen College of Medicine.

“My route to anesthesiology has not been the traditional path that most people take,” Dr. Slatton explained.

Before training in anesthesiology, he completed a residency in Internal Medicine at ETSU James H. Quillen College of Medicine.

“It was during these years that I further strengthened my foundation in general medicine to better prepare myself for a career in anesthesiology.”

He later completed his residency in anesthesia at the Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Slatton has always been fascinated with anesthesiology. He had the opportunity to shadow a general surgeon at his local hospital while he was in high school.

“I found myself drawn to the anesthetic aspect of the surgery,” he said. “It was through this experience that I knew I wanted to be an anesthesiologist.”

Dr. Slatton has had several mentors throughout his life.

“A common message from all of them was to pursue my dreams and to never give up until those dreams are obtained,” he said.

“My goals are to provide the best anesthesia I can for the patients of eastern Kentucky,” said Dr. Slatton. “I have received excellent training while in Pittsburgh, and I look forward to bringing these skills to Pikeville.”

Dr. Slatton said his patients can expect him to be honest and personable.

“I am extremely easy to get along with and I treat all patients as if they were my own family,” he said.

Dr. Slatton chose PMC because of the level of care that it provides to patients.

“This hospital has a stellar reputation throughout the region of providing top-notch, quality medical care comparable to tertiary academic medical centers,” he explained. “I also chose PMC due to the family environment that I witnessed during my interviews here. Everyone was so welcoming and warm to me while I was deciding on where to begin my professional career.”

When he’s not caring for patients, Dr. Slatton enjoys watching college football, computers, movies and travel.
