About Dr. Coulter

Pikeville Medical Center (PMC) proudly announces the addition of Interventional Radiologist William S. Coulter, DO.

Coulter received his Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology and certification in medical technology from Pennsylvania State University and his medical degree from the Pikeville College School of Osteopathic Medicine (now the University of Pikeville – Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine). He completed his diagnostic radiology residency and interventional radiology fellowship at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. Dr. Coulter is board certified by the American Board of Radiology.

A full-service interventional radiologist, Coulter specializes in joint injections, lumbar puncture, thoracenesis, paracentesis, bone marrow biopsy, dialysis access, vertebroplasty, kyphoplasty, diseased arteries and veins, tumor biopsies and treatment, and joint injections.

“When deciding on my specialty, I wanted to work with direct patient care and radiology,” Coulter said. “Interventional radiology is a great combination of both.”

He prides himself on being prepared, flexible, creative and patient.

“My rule of thumb is to be prepared, but have the creativity and flexibility to handle crisis and abnormalities as they arise. Patience is a key to this profession, whether it’s explaining a procedure or working through a difficulty.”

Dr. Coulter’s goal is to provide quality patient care that is clinically focused and thorough.

He is excited to be part of the PMC family and to practice in the community he came to love while in medical school.

“I lived in Pikeville for two years and found it to be the perfect small town for me,” said Dr. Coulter. “I am an outdoors kind of person and enjoy all the opportunities nestled in these mountains.”

He saw a clear vision for patient oriented services while visiting PMC, making his decision to practice medicine at the hospital an easy one.

Dr. Coulter is located on the 2nd floor of the PMC Clinic. To schedule a physician appointment, call 606-430-2202.
