Amy Johnson, MD, FACS
Bariatric and General Surgeon
Amy Johnson, MD, FACS, is a weight loss and general surgeon who has successfully completed over 1,000 weight loss surgery cases with a very low complication rate. She is a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons and the American Medical Association. She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is board certified by the American Board of Surgery.
Dr. Johnson completed her undergraduate education at the University of Oregon where she was Phi Beta Kappa. She then received an MD from Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC with honors from Alpha Omega Alpha. She completed her surgical residency at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in 2002 and began Active Duty Service at Fort Bragg, NC as a general and weight loss surgeon. After completing her service to the military she stayed on at Fort Bragg where she grew a busy weight loss surgery practice.
Her experience, expertise and compassion for her patients raises the bar for weight loss surgery in the region. Her goals in surgically treating morbid obesity are to eliminate or significantly improve medical problems that plague this patient population.
Jennifer Wright, PhD
Dr. Wright received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Kentucky, Master’s degree from Eastern Kentucky University, and SpE Educational Psychology and PhD from the University of Kentucky. A full-service psychologist, Dr. Wright specializes in pre-procedure evaluations and weight loss surgery psychological consultations.
Physician Practice Manager
Susana Potter is the Physician Practice Manager for the Weight Loss Surgery Center. She attended Eastern Kentucky University, majoring in business management and is a registered medical coder (RMC). Bringing 37 years of experience to Pikeville Medical Center, she joined the PMC team in 2013. Susana began her career in 1976 working for a General Surgeon’s Practice as a coder and Practice Manager. Prior to joining the Weight Loss Surgery Center, Susana served as a Manager of both PMC’s Billing Department and Centralized Scheduling. She is a current member of the AAPC.
Amy Kimbler, RN, BSN, CBN
Weight Loss Surgery Coordinator and Registered Bariatric Nurse
Amy received her Nursing Degree from Pikeville College (currently University of Pikeville) in 1999 and her Bachelor’s of Science Nursing Degree from Morehead State University in May 2012. Before joining Pikeville Medical Center’s weight loss surgery team, Amy worked in the hospital’s critical care unit and endoscopy department, as well as in a primary care physician’s office. Amy recently completed her certification as a bariatric nurse. Hospitals, employers, bariatric surgeons, nurses and especially patients benefit from having certified bariatric nurses on staff.
Delfina Dixon, APRN FNP-BC
Weight Loss Surgery Nurse Practitioner
Delfina Dixon is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner who has been a nurse since 1997. She brings to the practice knowledge and firsthand experience concerning weight loss surgery. Delfina completed her undergraduate education as a Registered Nurse at Mountain State University in Beckley, WV. She earned her Master’s Degree and Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner at Marshall University in Huntington, WV. Delfina is board certified through the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Jennifer Cantrell, APRN FNP-BC
Weight Loss Surgery Nurse Practitioner
Jennifer is board certified by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She began her nursing career in 1998 as a Registered Nurse after earning her Nursing Degree from Pikeville College (currently University of Pikeville). In 2004 she obtained a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing Degree from Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, KY. She earned her Master’s Degree and Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner at Frontier Nursing University in Hyden, KY.
Debby Damron, LPN
Licensed Practical Nurse
Debby has been an LPN since 2005. She received her Associates Degree from Bluefield State College. She began her career at Montgomery General Hospital, moved to Charleston Area Medical Center and is now at Pikeville Medical Weight Loss Surgery Center.
Nikki Petterson has been a registered dietitian since 2002. She graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a Bachelor’s Degree in general dietetics and completed her dietetic internship at Spalding University in Louisville, KY. Nikki has spent most of her career as a renal dietitian in an outpatient dialysis clinic.
Sherri Blair, RDN, LD
Registered and Licensed Dietitian
Sherri Blair has been a Registered Dietitian since 1990. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics through the Coordinated Dietetics program at University of Kentucky in 1990. The majority of Sherri’s professional career has been in a hospital setting and in nutritional education service with a focus on outpatient weight loss and diabetes
Audrianna obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Sociology at the University of Pikeville in 2015. She administers and reports the physiological computer assessments for patients during their pre-surgery preparation. As a collegiate volleyball player and high school coach she can encourage patients, by example, to live an active lifestyle.
Michelle has worked in the health care field since 1994. Her experience assists her in working through filing and processing the departments insurance claims. Before joining the weight loss surgery practice, she worked in Pikeville Medical Center’s Central Registration, Emergency Department, Switchboard/Communications and as supervisor for the Centralized Scheduling and Preauthorization Departments. She is a member of American Academy of Professional Coders.
Certified Medical Assistant
Autumn has been a Certified Medical Assistant since 2015.
She earned her associates degree from Medtech College in Lexington, KY. She began her career in a dermatology clinic in Norton, VA.
Tiffany Fronto is a patient advocate for the Weight Loss Surgery Center. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice at Pikeville College and currently resides in Pikeville, KY. She has worked at Pikeville Medical Center since 2011 and is passionate about the weight loss surgery program. Not only is she a team member, but she is a weight loss patient herself. Tiffany had gastric bypass in December of 2011 and has since dedicated herself to good health.
Nick joined the Weight Loss Surgery Center in 2015 as a scheduler. Nick is the department’s front-line contact. He is the voice on the phone working hard to provide an appointment time that works best for our patients. Nick completed his education at Big Sandy Community and Technical College prior to joining the weight-loss surgery team.
Physician Office Assistant
Kathy Hall has worked in the health care fi eld since 1996. Before she joined the weight loss surgery practice, she worked in Pikeville Medical Center’s Central Registration, Family Practice Clinic, Emergency Department and Neurosurgery. Kathy attended Eastern Kentucky University where she majored in social work.
Physician Office Assistant
Anna Tackett has been a physician office assistant for the Weight Loss Surgery Center since 2009. Before joining the weight loss surgery practice, Anna worked for 14 years in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Pikeville Medical Center as a Critical Care Technician. Anna is a 1996 graduate of Pikeville College where she obtained a degree in education.
