Critical Care Services

The Critical Care Units at Pikeville Medical Center are home to highly advanced technologies and the staff are trained in a number of specialty areas to handle highly complex cases. The Critical Care Units have a satellite pharmacy located inside its doors to provide quick access to necessary medications. The units also enjoy a 1:1/2:1 patient to nurse ratio so the highest level of care can be received by every patient.

Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU)

MICU strives to meet the critical care needs of medical patients.

  • Provides 24 hour cardiac monitoring capabilities.
  • Meets the patient care needs of a variety of medical patients (accepts surgical patients on overflow basis).
  • Eight private rooms.

Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU)

SICU provides 24 hour monitoring of critically ill surgical and medical patients with state of the art equipment.

  • Meets the patient care needs of a variety of surgical patients (accepts medical patients on overflow basis).
  • Eight private rooms.
  • Specially trained nurses to provide for post-op Open Heart recovery patients.
