When a child is hospitalized, the whole family is affected. Families are likely already experiencing anxiety when their child is ill or injured; they should not have to worry about traveling out of the area and the financial burdens that come along with it. The Mettu Children’s Hospital at Pikeville Medical Center (PMC) is alleviating some of those hardships by providing high-quality pediatric care close to home.

From the moment patients step through the doors at the Mettu Children’s Hospital, they enter a magical atmosphere. Specific pediatric features, such as the safari theme throughout, were designed to lessen the fear that often accompanies hospital stays. Equipped with high-tech, pediatric hospital beds, full bathrooms with showers, a pull-out couch for families staying overnight, a wide array of toys and video games and other unique aspects, each detail promotes the healing process. All of this thought and preparation was to ensure children are provided with a dedicated space to recover from illness and injury.

PMC offers a compassionate and experienced team of doctors, nurses and other support staff specifically trained on the medical needs of pediatric patients and is ready to care for them when the need arises. Its three pediatric hospitalists are skilled in the treatment of hospitalized children and work together with their support staff to create the best possible care plan for their patients. Co-Medical Directors Fritz Stine, DO, and Brandon Nelson, MD, recently welcomed Aaron Whiteman, MD, to the Mettu Children’s Hospital team.

At the Mettu Children’s Hospital at PMC, children can find hope, healing and a future filled with promise.
