Many times, one of the first steps patients take in their healthcare journey involves getting their blood drawn for testing.  Several months ago, as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Pikeville Medical Center (PMC) took steps to make this process safer and more convenient for patients by offering this service as a drive-thru option.

When a physician orders blood work, PMC staff at the Outpatient Diagnostic Center have the ability to complete the order without the patient having to leave his or her vehicle, eliminating the need to come inside the hospital.

“Recently, we implemented this addition to safely and efficiently provide quality service to our patients,” said PMC Chief Operating Officer, Kansas Justice. “We recognize that our patients want to and deserve to receive services such as lab work as quickly as possible,” said Justice.

PMC has designed an efficient drive-thru system located behind the Outpatient Diagnostic Center at the intersection of Baird Avenue and Bypass Road in Pikeville.

Physicians can electronically send the order, or a patient can bring the written order to the registration area. At that point, a PMC phlebotomist will draw blood and send it to the PMC laboratory.  Once the testing is complete, the results will be sent to the physician.
