Pikeville Medical Center’s (PMC) two board-certified ophthalmologists treat patients for a variety of disorders and diseases affecting the eye using state-of-the-art equipment. Keith Ison, DO, and Kay C. Hazelett, MD, both specialize in diagnosing and treating glaucoma, performing surgeries to remove cataracts, and other laser eye surgeries.

Both physicians pride themselves in giving a family medicine feel to a specialized service, and say they were drawn to PMC for its reputation of providing advanced equipment for its physicians to use.

A large number of patients who make appointments to see PMC’s ophthalmologists are seeking treatment for cataracts, which many times, can be corrected through a minimally-invasive outpatient procedure.

“I tell patients not to look at cataracts as an ailment,” said Dr. Ison. “People today are living longer and are staying active much later in life. For many of us, cataracts will affect our vision at some point as we get older.

But, with the advanced technology we have now, living with cataracts doesn’t necessarily need to be a part of life.”

PMC’s Ophthalmology Department is located on the 9th floor of the PMC Clinic building. For more information, visit  www.pikevillehospital.org/services/ophthalmology/.
