Cardiac Electrophysiologists at the Heart & Vascular Institute of Eastern Kentucky at Pikeville Medical Center are well-equipped to treat patients experiencing all types of irregular heart rhythms. Electrophysiologists are commonly referred to as “electricians of the heart,” and PMC has an experienced team of electrophysiologists which includes Dr. Chase Reynolds, Dr. Michael Antimisiaris and Dr. Joseph Souza.

These physicians are part of a team of 10 specialized heart surgeons who treat the full breadth of conditions that involve the heart’s electrical system. They specialize in the treatment of various heart conditions including Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) and are trained to perform many minimally invasive procedures such as pacemaker and defibrillator implantations, cardioversions and ablations.

Physicians at the Heart and Vascular Institute of Eastern Kentucky are truly experts at heart. Michael Antimisiaris, MD, is considered by many to be a pioneer in the field of electrophysiology, having worked alongside physicians to develop some of the first procedures in this specialized field. He joined the PMC team of physicians in 2009 as the medical center’s first electrophysiologist. Chase Reynolds, MD, returned to his hometown of Pikeville to join the PMC Electrophysiology team in 2014. Most recently, PMC welcomed Joseph Souza, MD, FACC, FHRS, to its team after working many years in Lexington, Kentucky. All PMC electrophysiologists are board certified and have many years of experience.

This expert team of cardiac specialists has played a major role in the growth of the Heart and Vascular Institute of Eastern Kentucky at PMC. In fact, Drs Reynolds and Antimisiaris were the first in Kentucky to use a state-of-the-art ablation catheter for patients living with complex arrhythmias. PMC remains in the top percentage of hospitals in the state for volume of advanced procedures including Watchman, Hybrid Ablation, leadless pacemakers, Automatic Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (AICD) implementation, Cryoablation Therapy and much more.
