About Dr. Legault

Cardiothoracic anesthesiology is a subspecialty of anesthesiology devoted to care of patients undergoing cardiothoracic surgery and related invasive procedures.

Dr. Legault received his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Tennessee (UT) in Knoxville, and his medical degree from the University of Pikeville – Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine. After completing an anesthesiology residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, he completed a fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic specializing in cardiothoracic anesthesiology.

He is board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology and National Board of Echocardiography and holds a certification in Advanced Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography.

Dr. Legault grew up knowing he wanted to be a physician like his father, who is a surgeon.

“I knew I wanted to work in an operating room,” Legault said. “When I learned about what an anesthesiologist did, I knew this was the career for me.”

This past year he was invited by his anesthesiology residency program in Pittsburgh to give a lecture to the entire anesthesiology department.

“I was both very honored and humbled at this opportunity,” he said. “To be able to lecture and teach to all the anesthesiologists who trained me was an amazing experience.”

Dr. Legault has a deep faith that guides him through life.

“My mentor is Jesus Christ,” he said. “From Him, I have learned many principles and values that can be applied at work. Love, compassion, and patience are a few.”

Dr. Legault has many goals for his practice at PMC.

“I want to alleviate fears and anxieties for patient and their families on the day of surgery,” he said. “I want to treat every person with care and respect and to incorporate my Christian values into my anesthetic care plan. It’s my goal to provide quality, evidenced-based, safe care for my patients.”

Dr. Legault chose PMC because of the great cardiac program.

“I feel that I have the training and skills that can help contribute to the advancement of this ever-growing program,” he said. “To return to Pikeville and be part of something special truly is a blessing and experience myself and my family are looking forward to.”

When he’s not caring for patients, Dr. Legault enjoys running, Bible study fellowship, golf, biking and spending time with his family. He also enjoys watching UT football and University of Kentucky basketball.
