Medication Instructions
Before Surgery
(Pick up at Pharmacy)
1. Celebrex 200 mg by mouth 2 times/day – The day before your surgery (if need substitute, take Ibuprofen 800 mg by mouth twice daily day before surgery)
2. Neurontin 300 mg by mouth 3 times/day – The day before your surgery (If you are already taking Neurontin take your regular dose)
3. Tylenol 1000mg (Over The Counter)(tablet or capsule) by mouth 3 times/day – The day before your surgery.
4. 24-32 oz. Regular Gatorade or Powerade – Drink 1st bottle the night before your surgery and drink 2nd bottle 2 hours prior to hospital arrival time.
5. Tylenol 1000mg Over The Counter)(tablet or capsule) by mouth and Neurontin 300mg by mouth with Gatorade/Powerade Drink 2 hours prior to hospital arrival time.
6. Miralax Powder 17 grams mixed and dissolved in 4 to 8 oz water or another clear beverage and consumed once daily. Start 2 weeks prior to surgery.

After Surgery
7. Neurontin 300 mg by mouth 3 times/day – 2 additional days after you are home from the hospital. (Crush tablet or open capsule) (If you are already taking Neurontin take your regular dose)
8. Acetaminophen with Codeine – 10ml every 6 hours as needed for pain (DO NOT TAKE IF TAKING OTC LIQUID TYLENOL)
OR
9. Liquid Tylenol – Follow OTC directions (DO NOT TAKE IF TAKING PRESCRIBED ACETAMINOPHEN WITH CODEINE)
10. Prilosec 20 mg every day
11. Zofran ODT 4mg every 8 hours as needed for nausea
12. Miralax Powder 17 grams mixed and dissolved in 4 to 8 oz water or another clear beverage and consumed once daily. Continue use after surgery until further notice.
13. ________________ start this medication the day after you get home from the hospital.
You will also be scheduled for IV Fluids on the 3rd floor of the Elliott Building at PMC after surgery at Week 1, week 2, and week 3. Valet Parking is available near the entrance of The Heart Institute.
