Pikeville Medical Center (PMC) recently recognized its tenth DAISY Award winner, Tiffany Sumner. The DAISY Award is a national recognition initiative that recognizes extraordinary nurses for the work they do for patients and families each day.
Sumner has been a registered nurse (RN) on the Obstetrics/Gynecological (OB/GYN) Unit for just over one year. Sumner, who resides in Ivel, was selected from a group of several nominees and was honored during a surprise ceremony at the hospital on April 4.
Sumner was nominated for the award for the care she provided to an OB/GYN patient at PMC. Below is the nomination letter submitted by the patient:
All of the nurses were great, don’t get me wrong; but this nurse in particular I have seen every day that I have been here. She is very nice, always asking if I needed anything, always answering my questions or finding an answer for me if she doesn’t know. She gives that “I really do care” feeling. She has made this a wonderful experience that I will never forget. I do believe nursing is a part of who she is – caring. She gives you a feeling of comfort and security and I feel so welcomed to be here when she is around. You are blessed to have such a caring, well-mannered RN working for you. I hope she stays at this hospital so that she can make others just as happy as she has made me.
Sumner was selected from a number of RNs who were also nominated for this prestigious award.
