Pikeville Medical Center’s infectious disease specialist, pulmonologists, and critical care providers are here for you. Working in conjunction with the United States Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Kentucky Department of Public Health (KDPH), our healthcare professionals are uniquely qualified to help combat this pandemic. Having established our own Highly Infectious Disease Unit (HIDU) back in 2015, PMC has both the equipment and capacity to handle a large number of cases. Our HIDU meets and exceeds all applicable standards for treating COVID-19. For severe cases needing advance respiratory life support, Pikeville Medical Center is one of the few hospitals in our region with the capacity to provide multiple patients with Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) treatment. PMC’s ECMO machines replace the function of the heart and lungs during life-threatening conditions such as severe lung damage from infection.
